Horror Movies



Once in a while everyone likes to be scared out of their wits watching horror movies. You enjoy watching scary movies or you enjoying scaring others; whatever the reason, here's a list of the scariest movies of all time.


1. The Exorcist (1973)
Based on a novel written by William Peter Blatty and directed by William Friedkin, winner of 2 Oscars, this was the scariest movie of all times. When the movie was released in 1973, there were reports of people fainting, people actually running out of the cinemas in tears, people falling ill but yet people were queuing outside the theatres to watch it. It is definitely not recommended for the weak hearted.

2. The Haunting (1963)
Nominated for the Golden Globe,



this movie is based on the belief of ghosts and the investigation of the place Hill House by Dr. Markway for his reserch. This movie too is based on a novel by Shirley Jackson and directed by Robert Wise. The lead roles are palyed by Julie Harris and Claire Bloom. The movie will keep you guessing and on the edge of your seats throughout.


3. Psycho (1960)
Nominated for 4 Oscars, this movie has to be the scariest of all. Brillantly directed by none other than Alfred Hitchcock, it is about Norman Bates played by Anthony Perkins and his mother's inflence on him. The infamous scene in the shower took 7 days and 70 different camera angles to shoot it but lasts for only 45 seconds in the movie. The other actors include Janet Leigh, Vera Miles, John Gavin.

4. The Shining (1980)
It is a movie directed by Stanley Kubrick and based on the novel written by Stephen King. It stars Jack Nicholson and Shelley Duvall playing the lead as the parents and Danny Lloyd as their son. The story takes off when they go to a lonely hotel in the winters and the son starts seeing things. This takes a toll on his father. All the characters are well played and if you looking for the spooky effect, this is the movie for you.


5. Rosemary's Baby (1968)
Rosemary's baby is not like all the other horror flicks depicting blood, vampires, were wolves, shock moments or the serial killers. Very well directed by Roman Polanski, this movie tells a tale of a young couple who shift to a new apartment and their wierd neighbours. Rosemary Woodhouse becomes inexplicably pregnant and how her baby affects her. The role of the couple is played by Mia Farrow and John Cassavetes and their wierd neighbours by Ruth Gordon and Sidney Blackmer.

6. The Others (2001)
Starring Nicole Kidman in the lead, this movie is a must watch. It tells a story of the mother and her two children played by Christopher Eccleston and Alakina Mann. The children have a very rare and fatal disease called xeroderma pigmentosum. They can not be exposed to light of any kind barring the candle light. If they are exposed to light, the skin breaks out in rashes and they can die.
