1. The Godfather (1972)
Directed by Francis Ford Coppola and winner of 3 Oscars including the Best Picture. This movie is adapted from the novel of the same name written by Mario Puzo. The movie is based on the lives of Don Vito Carleone, a mafia don and his family. The lead roles are played by Marlon Brando, Al Pacino, Diane Keaton and Talia Shire.



2. The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
This movie is directed by Frank Darabont and was nominated for 7 Oscars. Besides the Oscar nomination, the movie was nominated in 13 categories and won in 11 categories in the other awards. This movie tells a story about hope and friendship with a very surprising end. The lead roles are played by Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman, both outstanding actors.

3. The Godfather Part II (1974)
After the huge success of the first part, within 2 years this movie was released and won 6 Oscars aside from being nominated in 15 categories and winning 7 in other awards. The movie is a continuation of the first part and stars Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, Diane Keaton, Talia Shire to name a few.

4. Shichinin no samurai (1954)
This is a Japanese black and white movie and it means the Seven Samurai. It is directed by Akira Kurosawa and was nominated for 2 Oscars and won in 4 categories in other awards. The movie has been directed very well and is unpredictable till the end. For those who enjoy action packed movies, then this one is just for you.

5. Casablanca (1942)
Directed by Michael Curtiz and winner of 3 Oscars, the story revolves around the early days of World War II in the occupied Africa. Its a typical love story and features Humphrey Bogart, Ingrid Bergman.

6. Schindler's List (1993)
This movie is directed by the famous Steven Spielberg and is based on the Jews in Poland during the time of the war. It won 7 Oscars and a whopping 61 other awards aside from 22 other nominations. Some of the actors are Liam Neeson, Ben Kingsley, Ralph Fiennes and Caroline Goodall.
